ead: MANAGING HEALTH CARE QUALITY 1 Strayer University Crystal Lewis Assignment 2: Managing Health Care Quality HSA 501: Management in Health Care Dr. N. Beharry No... vember 25, 2016 Introduction Sunlight Hospital in California is experiencing some major complaints from their patients. Although patients generally like the hospital, one of those complaints is the quality of care they have experienced. Patients seem to believe that employees are too busy and do not spend time interacting with patients. As the hospital administrator, I have been tasked with understanding the state of the hospital, creating value, increasing efficiency, and turing Sunlight Hospital into patients’ facility of choice. Leadership has asked that I compile a report of my findings and suggest a strategy for achieving the hospital's current goals. Areas I will focus on are the five measurements of quality in health care specifically as they relates to emergency and inpatient care, quality of care improvement plan, and how Sunlight Hospital can use quality of care to create a competitive advantage. Classify five (5) measurements of quality of care in a hospital, and justify the primary reasons why you believe these measures matter to patients in their process of choosing a hospital for emergency or inpatient care. One would examine a health care organization and compose many different measurements that determine the quality of care. The measures that have been chosen are patient satisfaction, mortality rates, complication prevention, patient safety, and readmission. Each of the measures mentioned could determine whether or not one would select Sunlight Hospital as his or her health care provider. Patient Satisfaction Of the five measurements listed, patient experience and patient satisfaction is the only factor that are not objective. The main reasons one would consider patient experience when discussing the quality of care is, like most lines of business, customer satisfaction is a significant determinant of a company’s survival. Patient satisfaction also determines the compensations rates of hospitals and physicians (Otani, Waterman, & Dunagan, 2012). One would identify patient satisfaction as matters concerning nurse care, bedside manner, wait times, food options, ease of billing, and cleanliness. If a hospital does not meet patient expectations, this could leave room for patients to seek care at other health care organizations. [Show More]
