Strategy and Implementation Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is controlled by multiple factors and affects multiple systems if not managed properly. Uncontrolled diabetes can cause other conditions such as neuropathy, retinopathy, nephropathy, cardiomyopathy, and peripheral vascular disease. Patients are often admitted to the hospital with complications due to one of these conditions. The complications of these diseases are treated, the patient™s medications are adjusted, further education is provided, and the patients are then sent home to self-manage their diabetes and other chronic illnesses. Despite the education provided, the specialist care given, and the medication regime that they are on, they are unable to control their blood glucose levels and they become repeat offenders of hospital admissions. These patients are often looked as being noncompliant because they lack attentiveness to the disease. Unsatisfactory compliance of medication and diet leads to poor health outcomes in the diabetic patient (Carpenter et al., 2018, p. 71). However, there are other factors to consider when treating a person with uncontrolled blood glucose levels. Why is the patient not adhering to the prescribed regime? Is education an issue? Does the patient have adequate means to afford a proper diet and medications necessary to treat. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . .. .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . .
