The Principle of Conservation of Energy is a principle that states that energy cannot be destroyed nor can it be created. It also states that the total energy inside a closed/isolated system remains the same (Nave). This principle was discovered by Julius Robert Mayer in 1842. The roller coaster was required to have be self-supporting, weigh less than 3.0 pounds, have a jump were it leaves the track at an angle of 30° and land on a new section of the track at a different level from which it left the jump at, have at least one loop, have at least one hill, have a maximum volume of 0.60 m3 with a maximum length of 0.70 m in any given direction, and fit a marble “car”. Additionally, it also had to have all routes open and visible. Lastly, this project had to incorporate physics principles that was taught in the course.
