In general, each semester credit equals about 42 hours of total student work and each quarter credit equals about 28 hours of total student work. This time requirement represents an approximate average for undergraduate work and the minimum expectations for graduate work. The number and kind of activities estimated to fulfill time requirements will vary by degree level and student learning style, and by student familiarity with the delivery method and course content. Course Description In this course, students learn how nurse practitioners master the art and science of clinical decision making among adult populations across the lifespan. Students focus on the diagnosis and management of primary healthcare needs and problems of the adult, elderly, and frail elderly. They engage in a variety of course assignments that focus on physical and behavioral disease processes central to diagnosing illnesses as well as planning, implementing, and evaluating therapeutic treatment programs for acute illnesses commonly encountered in a primary healthcare setting. Students gain confidence in clinical experiences in a primary healthcare setting where they learn to plan, implement, and evaluate therapeutic regimens for adult patients with common acute and chronic illnesses. Note: This course requires a minimum of 144 practicum hours. Note: All FNP students may only see patients aged 18 years and above, AGNP and AGAC-NP students may see patients according to state requirements. Course Prerequisites • NURS 6501: Advanced Pathophysiology • NURS 6511: Advanced Health Assessment and Diagnostic Reasoning • NURS 6521: Advanced Pharmacology Course Outcomes • Analyze domains and theories of nursing practice • Analyze disorders of body systems • Analyze diagnoses for patients • Evaluate patient treatment options • Analyze health promotion and patient education strategies • Understand and apply key terms, concepts, and principles related to the primary care of adults across the lifespan SON Alignment of Learning Outcomes Course Materials Students will be provided the following course materials.
