2 PURPOSE AND OUTCOMES 2.1 Purpose The purpose of this module is to open the modern world of computer and related technologies to you, and to train you to become a computer literate teacher. You wil... l learn the integration of ICTs in South African schools, support with the integration of ICTs in classroom activities, vocabulary of computers in terms of hardware, software, processing and networks (including the internet); the various applications of computer and related technologies in education; how to use computer technology in the classroom to enhance your own teaching and your learners’ learning. 2.2 Outcomes On completion of this module, you should be able to demonstrate the following: The integration of ICTs in South African schools • Discuss and evaluate the appropriate use of ICTs in line with historical and current South African perspective • Explain how to integrate ICTs in a South African context. • Compare the use of ICTs based on research reports and articles in the field. Support with the integration of ICTs in classroom activities • Identify various role players for effective integration of ICTs in classroom activities. • Discuss how the implementation of roles is done and how supportive role players are in the use of ICTs in a school context. • Justify the roles by using ICT theory, for example the Activity Theory. Evaluate and update your ICT skills as necessary • Compile assignments and reports, by using word-processing.
