Mark Twain is satirizing the issue of what adults or parents tell their young children. "I hope you will treasure up the instructions which I have given you, and make them a guide to your feet and a light to your understanding." 2. What techniques does Twain use to create his satire? During his writing Mr. Twain uses many techniques to create satire. He uses parody, wit, hyperbole, and irony. "You want to be very careful about lying; otherwise you are nearly sure to get caught." 3. What is the issue McCullough is satirizing? I believe McCullough is wanting to push themselves as hard as they can. He thinks kids should want to do good for themselves and not for other people. "Climb it so you can see the world, not so the world can see you. Go to Paris to be in Paris, not to cross it off your list and congratulate yourself for being worldly. " 4. What techniques does McCullough use to create his satire? In his writing McCullough uses wit, caricature, hyperbole to create his satire. 5. How effectively do the techniques used communicate Twain’s position? Mark Twain is often trying to be funny and he can even overexaggerate. His advice is often humorous and ironic allowing easy access to readers. "First, then. I will say to you my young friends--and I say it beseechingly, urgingly--" 6. How effectively do the techniques used communicate McCullough’s position? While using his techniques McCullough he is trying to convince the audience that not everyone is special.
