The film ‘Boyz n the Hood’ directed by John Singleton narrates about the lives of three young males residing in the Crenshaw ghetto of Los Angeles whereby he explores the questions of race, relati... onships, violence, as well as future prospects. Through his narration, Singleton who is both the writer and director of the film reveals social problems in inner-city Los Angeles, California whereby, the story assumes the form of a tale of three friends maneuvering through life together in the “hood”. Doughboy and Ricky Baker, who are half-brothers, are two sides of the same coin for each other’s personality portraying completely opposite approaches to the difficult lives they are going exposed to. This is evident by the fact that Ricky is the “All-American” athlete, currently striving to secure a place in USC through football scholarship and also aims at gaining salvation through sports.
