M1 L2 - Star Life Cycle Review

Document Content and Description Below

Purpose: In this assignment you will demonstrate what you understand about the life cycle of stars and how elements are formed. Directions: Complete the parts below. PART 1: According to NASA, “... nucleosynthesis” means “the creation of new elements in stars by combining lighter nuclei to make heavier nuclei.” Write a definition of nucleosynthesis you could use with an elementary school student. Lighter nuclei come together to make heavier nuclei, and when that happens, it creates a new element Draw a model on paper of how you think this happens in stars, take a photo of it and insert the picture in the space below. Diagrams from the internet at not acceptable. In words, describe why you have drawn the model the way you did. Include terms from your model where you can. I have drawn this model the way I did because it shows how the nuclei come together List three questions you have that will help you understand the question of where natural elements of the universe originate. 1 What happened after the explosion happened? 2 How are new stars able to form? Use this website to answer the questions you wrote in the spaces below. http://aspire.cosmicray.org/Labs/StarLife/ 1 After the explosion occured it created the basic air elements 2 In order to get other elements, they must be built out of hydrogen through nuclear fusion, which occurs within stars. 3 The HR Diagram From Earth, there are a number of things that we can observe about stars. One of the easiest things to measure is the star's brightness, or magnitude. PART 2: Using the same website from Part 1, start with the section on Protostars, then the section on Main Sequence.
