Meta-ethics refers to a branch of analytic philosophy that is concerned with the nature of ethical statements, properties, judgments as well as attitudes. Philosophers recognize four branches in moral... ethics which include meta-ethics, descriptive ethics, applied ethics, and normative ethics. While the other branches focus on what is moral, meta-ethics seeks to establish what morality itself is. Meta-ethics answers questions like “what is goodness? And whose goodness is it for?” and “How can a person tell good from bad” and the like. There are five metaethical theories that seek to explain moral reality, moral psychology, and moral reason. Moral reason describes moral knowledge, and how to decide which belief is best, moral psychology deals with actual interests, judgments, and the motivation that people experience while moral reality describes what makes moral statements true. These theories include moral naturalism, emotivism, moral relativism, error theory, and moral intuitionism. [Show More]
