S 5334) Mary Davis, DNP, MSN, ANP-BC, ADM-BC July 14, 2018 DIABETES MELLITUS CASE STUDY 2 5334 CASE SUMMARY TABLE Symptoms: List two pertinent signs and symptoms or risk factors The patient’s risk factors for diabetes mellitus are: advanced age > 65 years, central obesity with BMI > 25, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and a family history of diabetes (Brashers, Jones, & Huether, 2014, p. 739). Symptoms of diabetes mellitus present in patient include blurred vision, fatigue, polydipsia, polyphagia, and weakness. This patient presents with common physical symptoms and corresponding lab values confirming diabetes mellitus, random glucose 202 mg/dL, A1C 7.8%, total cholesterol 280 mg/dL, HDL 27 mg/dL, and LDL 193 mg/dL (Wells, Schwinghammer, DiPiro, & DiPiro, 2017, p. 172-173). Recommended Drugs: List three recommended drugs as indicated for this diagnosis 1. Metformin (Vallerand, Sanoski, Deglin, 2013, p. 830) 2. Repaglinide (Prandin) (Vallerand et al., 2013, p. 1097) 3.
