Explain using four specific examples With this dataset, there is a slight positive relationship between the HDI values and the Population Density per km^2 of Arable Land. In the case of Switzerland, it has both a high HDI and Arable land density. 4) Explain the causes of food shortages according to Norton and Mercier. Norton and Mercier state that there are usually three common causes that most people refer to in explanation of the food shortages, overpopulation, inadequate distribution of available supplies, and physical or human circumstances. Overpopulation is a basic idea, the more people there are to feed the more food you will need, so although there is no real proof of overpopulation, as Norton and Mercier state that densely populated places are not exactly overpopulated.
