Introduction The nursing profession portrays a lot of positive impacts impact to the public, with the projected nursing shortage, the positive influence might end up deteriorating thus affecting the ... public negatively.it is evident that nurses play an important role to healthcare of individuals through the delivery of quality care. The impact on the nursing profession Nurses will need to work for long hours and under stressful conditions due to the projected shortage, and this can result in job dissatisfaction, fatigue or even injury. Nurses working in a position that is stressful are prone to making errors and other medical mistakes (In Hamric et al., 2014). Impact to the public Due to the high probability of nurses to commit grave errors in nursing practice, the public might suffer. For instance, nurses are supposed to observe the five rights of drug administration, but as a result of shortages, they might want to carry out their work swiftly thus making them commit errors like administering the wrong drug to the right patient. Besides, an increase in mortality might ensue, and the rate of emergencies might skyrocket (Roussel, 2013). Ways the nursing profession aim at resolving the problem The projected shortage of nurses has prompted the nursing profession to consider hiring foreign nurses and pay nurses higher wages so as to attract them to remain in the workforce. The nurses’ union is also championing for the increase in wages for nurses (Roussel, 2013). Another option is that of raising funds so as to facilitate nursing education to students and the faculty (In Hamric et al., 2014). In conclusion, the nursing profession aims at encouraging engage in communication with the press on the positivity of nursing and facilitates the launching of campaigns that aim at advertising as well as improving and promoting the image of the profession.
