Physics > STUDY GUIDE > PHY 112 Wave Diffraction Lab Report (Grand Canyon University) Already Graded A (All)
Wave diffraction occurs when a wave encounters an obstacle which then bends around it. The wave separates into new waves that interfere with one another. This occurs due to interference also known as ... construction and destruction of the wave which is different from the original. For this experiment, a diffraction grating will be used in which light strikes the grating. Some of the light passes through, but the light that hits the area between the slits is absorbed or reflected backward. A geometric relation occurs where there is distance between the individual slits in the diffraction grating, there is distance between the grating and screen, as well as a distance between interference fringes and central maxima. A calculation of angle of incidence and wavelength can be determined (Wave diffraction, n.d.). The purpose of this lab is to study the light passing through slits in a diffraction grating in order to observe both contrastive and destructive interference patterns. The wavelength of the incident light from the laser will be determined along with calculation of the longest and shortest visible wavelength. [Show More]
