Review topographic maps from lab 2, and how to construct a topographic profile (http://serc.carleton.edu/mathyouneed/slope/topoprofile.html). Is the coastline of Staten Island mostly sandy (i.e. beaches and mudflats) or rocky (i.e. cliffs and wave-cut platforms)? Is the coastline of Staten Island submergent or emergent? Draw a diagram showing how sand moves along a beach due to longshore currents.
