Mike Smith Mike is a 16-year-old boy who has been diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a cancer of the bone that has manifested as a tumor in his proximal humerus. His latest scans show that the cancer is l... ocalized in the bone where it began and has not metastasized or spread to other areas of his body. With this data, I can conclude that the treatment that Mike should receive is chemotherapy, and radiation therapy to try and decrease the tumor in his proximal humerus, if the tumor remains, cancer surgery is also an option; sometimes the removal of the entire compartment or limb will be necessary if the therapy fails to properly execute its job. Charlie Charlie is a 14-year-old boy who has been diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a cancer of the soft tissue that has manifested as a tumor in the orbit of his left eye. He is considered stage I, because it is located in what is assessed as a “favorable area” and hasn’t metastasized to distant parts of his body. The first treatment that should be assessed towards Charlie is surgery, the doctor will remove all of the cancer that is visible at the time of the surgery and will be given chemotherapy after the surgery to kill any cancer cells that are left, radiation therapy may also be given to assist in the process of removing the cancer.
