Paula Beatty Lab Section 9 Experiment performed 6 April 2017 Electromagnetic induction experiment Introduction This experiment involves inducing an electromotive force on a coil by moving a magne... t, moving a second coil, and changing the current in the second coil relative to the first coil. This time changing magnetic field should induce a current to flow. Description A voltage sensor is utilized with two leads to measure the potential difference across a coil and across an RLC circuit board. Three different set ups are used to see how the induced electromotive force varies. A voltmeter is used to measure the change in voltage across the coils. Procedures The first part will measure the electromotive force by moving a permanent magnet into and out of the coil, followed by moving a second coil with a current near the first coil and then changing the current in the second coil. In the final part of this experiment, a homemade coil will be made using a wire. Overall, from Faraday’s law and what we have learned about inductive forces, one should expect to see an induced electromotive force that is proportional to the rate of change of the magnetic field [Show More]
