What environmental forces drive organization development in your field or industry? What are the steps successful organizations take when responding to change? Have you experienced forces of change in... your work environment? How did the changes affect your organization? According to Brook (2016), there are six forces driving organization development in the healthcare industry: dissatisfied consumers, increased cost sharing, skyrocketing prescription drug costs, healthcare complexity, access and digital transformation, and healthcare reform. By adapting and learning to change these environmental forces, healthcare organizations can make a profound effect in this industry. However, some concerns of the healthcare industry are the management of change. Change occurs continuously and the pace in which change occurs has sped up tremendously (Al-Abri, 2007). Al-Abri (2007) reports the best steps of managing change is through evaluating, planning and implementing operations, tactics and strategies and making sure that the change is worthwhile and relevant. In order to keep organizations functioning, knowledge must be upgraded and technology must be incorporated. It is also important to tailor healthcare delivery to the needs of the population, create awareness programs, and it is essential to provide clear communication between the public and the organization (Al-Abri, 2007). I have experienced several forces of change in my work environment. Of the many changes, the most recent is the integration of technology into the healthcare industry. The government mandated the change from paper charting to computerized. This forced companies to change how healthcare was delivered. There was much resistance in the beginning, but this system proved to be more efficient, improved communication, is cost effective long-term, and safer overall for the consumer. [Show More]
