Examining Methodology and Design Grand Canyon University: DNP-830 Dr. Jane Schlickau Examining Methodology and Design Introduction “Research methodology refers to the various methods--wheth... er procedures or processes-by which research is developed and conducted” (Research methodology: Research Starters Topic, 2018. p. 2). This paper will look at qualitative, Quantitative and mix method. It will discuss the rreliability and validity issues with each method and examine its use in three 2selected articles. There are different types of design and methodology that research can assume, however this varies based on the field of study. Therefore, when research designs and methodology is being examined, it is important to consider the area of study. It is also important to note that regardless of the field of study, there are fundamental principles that are integrated across all fields and as such the basic principles will serve as a standard for determining the research design. Research methodology provides the framework, direction and structure for the research and how it should be conducted. It also serves as a guide for the development of the research problem and objectives. “It guides the formulation of the research problem and objectives and documents the outcome of data collection of the study” (Creswell & Creswell, 2018, p.3). Qualitative and quantitative methods are the two most significant research categories. Additional to these two categories, most recently, the mixed research method has become acceptable. “Qualitative research comprises studies in which observations are not or cannot be quantified, that is, expressed in numerical form” (Wienclaw, 2019. p. 1). This method is useful in studies utilizing observation, secondary analysis and surveys. Alternatively, the quantitative method is the analysis of numerical data. Quantitative Research: Scientific research in which observations are measured and expressed in numerical form, such as in [Show More]
