Use this chart to fill in information about the cartoon. H A P P Historical Context Audience Purpose Point of View (POV) This cartoon takes place after the Revolutionary War. This was when the nation was still trying to create a stable government. Andrew Jackson was elected out of four candidates with the most votes from both the Popular Vote and Electoral Vote. This cartoon was directed towards those who supported Andrew Jackson. The purpose is to influence the people’s opinion of him by displaying him as a ‘King’ like the one they just fought a war to get away from. The author is obviously not a fan of Andrew Jackson. The author’s point is that Jackson is going to end up acting like a king and trying to take over. Step 2: Closely read and take notes on the document.
