Document Content and Description Below

NR-103 Week 4 Small Group Discussion Week 4: Small Group Discussion Hello everyone 1. What were your first impressions of me, or what type of first impression do others have of me? 2. What d... oes my face look like when I think no one is looking? 3. If you did not know me, based on my nonverbal communication, would you approach me? Why or why not? I chose my youngest daughter Shahana (Hana), to ask about what was her first impression she felt about me. Hana explains when she was younger her impression of me was that I was angry, and mean but as she got older, and really started to understand that everything, she thought was wrong. She realized I was not mean but assertive, but was listening to understand because oftentimes as a child we just listen to respond. I also realized that although you were angry, you were within your rights because you were facing a lot of challenges on your own and you sometimes things became extremely frustrating. My daughter states my face looks calm, and sometimes it looks like I am in deep thought when I think no one is looking. I see strength in my mother’s face. I think you have a lot on your mind and trying to figure it out. If I did not know you based on your nonverbal communication, I would approach you because your aura is inviting and soothing. I feel when you are in a comfortable setting, I am approachable. 1. Did what I learned surprise me? 2. Was it easy to ask these questions and listen to the answers? I was not surprised about what I learned from my daughter because I was a single mom of four children. My focus was and still is on them to make sure they were taken care of. It was my responsibility to make sure they had the best education and to keep them busy so they would not get caught up with the wrong crowd. As Hana mentioned, I was very assertive because migrating from another country where a women’s duties were to take care of the home and was not encouraged doing other than domesticated work. Yes, because I always like to know what my children think about me. In order for me to be an effective parent and in doing so I at times just have to sit and listen. It was four of them and one of me and my pet pee was if you cannot communicate with me, I would not be able to help you. At times listening help me to become humble without judging. I was told at a young age that you just have to suck it up and crying is no option. Whereas, for my children I instilled into them to speak the truth even when it hurts. 1. Based on this information, what do I need to work on so that people see me as a professional in the work environment? Based on this information, I need to work on effective communication skills to be able to give and receive reports from my peers. I need to be knowledgeable in my profession so I can perform to the best of my capabilities at work. I am teachable and always willing to learn to better myself as a professional nurse in the working environment. Reference Wolf K. (2015). Measuring facial expression of emotion.
