Monroe College NURSING 812 Adult Assessment SOAP Note Plan Acute Bronchitis Assessment: Final Diagnoses Acute Bronchitis, unspecified J20.9 Additional Diagnoses with Coding: Management/Interve... ntion/Plan: Pharmacological: Steroid Inj Decadron 4-8 mg (systemic corticosteroid) (Rocephin ) ceftriaxone 1g inj. (3rd gen cephalosporin) Central cough suppressants (eg, codeine and dextromethorphan) – Short-term symptomatic relief of coughing in acute and chronic bronchitis Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) – Tx of constitutional symptoms of acute bronchitis, including mild-to-moderate pain Antitussives/expectorants (eg, guaifenesin) – Tx of cough, dyspnea, and wheezing Mucolytics – Management of moderate-to-severe COPD, especially in winter Bronchodilators (eg, ipratropium bromide and theophylline) – Control of bronchospasm, dyspnea, and chronic cough in stable patients with chronic bronchitis; a long-acting beta-agonist plus an inhaled corticosteroid can also be offered to control chronic cough Non-pharmacological: Chest X-ray- to R/O pneumonia Hydration: Avoid lung irritants. Don't smoke. Wear a mask when the air is polluted or if you're exposed to irritants, such as paint or household cleaners with strong fumes. Use a humidifier. Warm, moist air helps relieve coughs and loosens mucus in your airways. But be sure to clean the humidifier according to the manufacturer's recommendations to avoid the growth of bacteria and fungi in the water container. Consider a face mask outside. If cold air aggravates your cough and causes shortness of breath, put on a cold-air face mask before you go outside. [Show More]
