Teaching given at bedside in patient room post-delivery. II. Teaching plan: a. The Five Infections that are common to mothers in the postpartum period: i. Mastitis: inflammation of breast tissue 1. Inflammation 2. Redness of the breast tissue 3. Breast Tenderness 4. Fever / Chills ii. Cystitis: inflammation of urinary tract 1. Frequent urge to urinate with only small amounts of urine coming out 2. Burning sensation when urinating 3. Blood in urine 4. Discomfort in pelvic region 5. Discomfort in lower back- indicates infection in kidneys 6. Fever/ chills iii. Endometritis: inflammation of endometrial lining of uterus 1.
