When the laborer came to the north America from Africa by that time slavery was started. According to U.S. History (2019), Virginia would become the first British colony to legally establish slavery in 1661. Indentured servants were contracted between five to seven years and assisted in growing tobacco in the Chesapeake colonies (Openstax, 2019). In return, they “received paid passage to America and food, clothing and lodging (Openstax, 2019). In addition to that, the African people helped a lot to stronger the financially of the new nations, after that which leads to increase importance of slaves and in 18th century there were increased in their population in British colonies. Slaves from African labor played important role for the financial growth for British North America. Enslavement developed faster in the territory. Independent recipients were more dependent on slaves, however, “ the Carolinas began to pass slave laws based on the Barbados slave codes of the late 1600s. These laws reduced Africans to the status of property to be bought and sold as other commodities” (Openstax, 2019). According to Newmann (2019), puritan courts ordered that two blacks who had been seized in Africa for sale in Massachusetts be returned to their native land and in 1652, Rhode Island passed a law that “Condemned the practice of enslaving Africans for life” and ordered that any slave brought to the colony will be freed after 10 years of time frame. There are various variations slaves and indentured servants. The living life of slaves were controlled by their owners and they didn’t had any of freedom and there life was so pitiful as compared to indentured servants. “ indentured servants were granted freedom after serving a specified period of time to earn compensation in exchange of labor. They were in contrast of the slaves, service persons (Openstax, 2019). At beginning when majority of people came to America that began to colonized as articled servants and during the same time frame the enslavement came into coexistence. The northern colonies utilized their laborer for economic purposes rather than farming and were in efforts to dissolve servitude. The condition of slaves were more pitiful as compared to indentured servants because they work only for a contract basis and when their contract was completed or finished they will be free.
