However, it is equally important if the job offers professional development7-2-1 FINAL PROJECT SUBMISSION 2 opportunities and personal growth. Job flexibility is also an important factor, because it helps increase productivity at work while maintaining a good balance between work and personal life. Flexible schedule or telework gives an opportunity to be present for family events. It’s of essence that the job/company’s values are in line with my values and beliefs. It is easier to dedicate my time and efforts for the position that shares and supports my values and interests. Location: Since I live in Kansas City, it would be preferable for the job to be local. Moving a family out of state, relocating, kids changing schools is not ideal unless the job offers relocation expenses. If the job doesn’t offer relocation expense then the family will have to stay behind until I get settled in the other city. This sometimes means that the travel expense going back and forth to visit family is costly, and leads to decrease in final income. Relocating to a new city for work is something that needs to be discussed with my family since it will affect all family members: my wife will have to leave her job; kids will have to leave friends behind and make new friends and get adjusted to a new city. All pros and cons will be taken into an account when considering relocation. For example, a single roundtrip ticket between Kansas City to New York or Kansas City to Sacramento California is about $250. If I move alone, then I will probably be back at home at least once every 2 weeks. $250X26= $6,500 a year will be spent on travel tickets. If My family want to come and visit me at my new location that will be $250X3= $750 $6,500 +$750= $7,250 will be spent in travel alone. I also will have to account for mortgage and rent.
