Document Content and Description Below

NR-391 Week 2 Discussion Question: Transcultural Nursing Skills Self-Assessment Week 2: Transcultural Nursing Skills Self-Assessment Nurses complete assessments on individuals on a daily basis... . Self-assessments are in order before considering our abilities to provide culturally competent nursing care. 1. Complete the Transcultural Nursing Skills Self-Assessment Form (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.. 2. Note the number of "no" answers in your self-assessment. 3. Share one or two of your "no" answers with your classmates and describe how you will convert the "no" to a "yes" over the next few weeks. 4. What interventions are needed to turn each "no" into a "yes" response? Hello Professor and Class, I had a total of 2 “no” answers in my self-assessment. I have shared my 2 “no responses” along with the interventions required below. 1. I understand the differences between interpreters and translators. Interventions needed to turn my no into a yet requires searching for the difference between interpreter and translator. Searching will guide me to understand the difference between the two. As I searched to find the difference, I discovered that the difference is that a translator interprets the words of written text and interpreters translate verbally. An interpreter can expand the translation further so that it can easily be understood or stated culturally correct. A translator interprets the language received and delivers what the information in the language preferred but does not go further than that, unlike the interpreter. To apply this skill when practicing, I would choose between the two depending on what needs to be done for the patient. For example, when educating a patient, I would use an interpreter because it would allow information to be delivered culturally correct so that the patient can understand, and if they do not understand, explaining further can be accomplished by the interpreter. 2. Sometimes I take it personally when a patient from a different culture does not understand my questions. I really do not understand how to make this no into a yes. I do not take it personally when a patient from a different culture does not understand my question. However, I would attempt different ways to help them understand the question being asked by taking into account their preferred language. I would figure out how to deliver my question culturally correct. However, I still do not think I would take it personally if they cannot understand the question being asked. [Show More]
