Describe the interviewee: profession or career, culture of origin, and working phone number. Be specific. (20 points) Joann Ortega is a 44yrs old, female, Hispanic, Catholic religion born and raised in Quito, Ecuador which is located in South America. Current profession registered nurse for 2 year, working in long term care facility ICU and CCU setting in New Jersey. Working phone number is (973) 220-8512. 2. State the number of years the interviewee has resided in your community. Please verify that the interviewee has been living in a culture other than the one of origin for at least the past 3–5 years. Provide a description of the current community (your community). Be specific. (20 points) Joann has resided in my community for the past 20 years. She current lives in a predominantly African American community in Bloomfield, New Jersey which is Essex County. Essex County has significant pockets of high population, high building density, high poverty, and high crime rates. Within this general area however are many stable, mixed and middle-income areas of diverse populations. 3. Describe your relationship with the interviewee, such as friend, colleague, classmate, employee at local restaurant, healthcare worker, migrant worker, and so on. Describe the healthcare services that the interviewee has received in the current environment or community. (10 points) Joann and I were classmates in our LPN course at Hohokus School of business and medical science now known as Eastwick College. We became close friends and have known each for the past 7 years. Joann and I have experience our nursing educational journey hand in hand the whole way to RN associates degree. She is insured so has utilized her resource to seek primary and preventive health care. She goes to her primary care annually, as well as GYN. She uses the local pharmacy for her daily vitamin supplements and sees specialist if need be but hasn’t in over 3 years. 4. Enumerate reasons why you selected this interviewee that speak to the interviewee’s culture and experiences with the healthcare system. Be specific. (45 points) The reasons for picking Joann Ortega is for her strong ethnic cultural health beliefs, along with cultural Catholic religious beliefs, Hispanic belief, family unity is important including family into her teachings as a nurse and using her knowledge to care for herself in the same matter for her health needs. Her Ecuadorian beliefs allows her to include a holistic approach to natural medicine like in her homeland. Another reason is that she feels that health care systems are ran as business and no longer are health care providers give high quality care due to insurance reimbursements and over booking. She is a strong believer of patient and health care provider relationship has to be established with trust foremost, and professionalism along with empathy, which I agree one hundred percent with. Belief in leadership in family allows her to follow chain of command. This allows ease in compliance of patient care. In her experience with what she has witness in her nursing career along with her community is to reduce health care disparities with evidence based programs, health screening/prevention, assistance with healthy lifestyles, help for those with addictions, abused, mental and disabled outreach programs.
