Questions Paper > Glen Waverley Secondary College - Glen WaverleyCHIN 102030MAM11 2020 Unit 1 Prepatory Application Task. On the way to the Mathemagical Arts Festival The Mathemagical Arts Festival ... is being held in North Queensland. An airplane departs from Brisbane airport to fly to Cairns, a city 1700 kilometres away. In this section you will investigate the height of the plane as it takes off from the airport. Assume that the plane stays on the direct flight path during the take-off. Question 1 The body of a plane was 5 metres off the ground when stationary on the runway and the plane reached a height of 5000m when it was 47 km from Brisbane along its flight path. a) Given that the plane’s take off could be modelled by a quadratic equation of the form: t(d) = a(d -h)2 + k where d = the distance from the centre of Brisbane to the plane measured in kilometres and t(d) = the take-off height above ground in metres, show, by substitution, that the equation for the take-off is given by: t(d) = 5.55(d -17)2 + 5 (2 marks) b) Use this equation to find the height that the plane would reach after it was 35 km from Brisbane along its flight path? (2 marks) where d = the distance from the centre of Brisbane to the plane measured in kilometres and t(d) = the height above ground in metres, find the height the plane will reach when it is 59 km from Brisbane along its flight path? (2 marks) d) Write the function t(d) as a hybrid function assuming that the ascent equation given in part a) continues until the plane begins its descent 200 km from Cairns. (2 marks) e) Will the plane ever exceed a height of 10,000 m? Justify your answer. (2 marks) the plane from take-off until d = 94km marking all points and relevant features found in the previous questions (a-e) on your graph. [Show More]
