1 Task 1 Social Media Campaign Western Governors University (A)Time Log: see attached Social Media Campaign (B) Community Health Nursing Diagnosis Statement Increased risk of Cov... id-19 infection among those 60 years of age and older R/T knowledge deficit of preventative measures such as hand hygiene, social distancing, avoiding crowded areas, and early identification of symptoms through screening, as evidenced by an increase in positive COVID-19 cases in the nursing home population of Erie County. (B1) Health Inequity/Disparity COVID-19 does not discriminate, as a person of any age can become infected. The severity of the infection increases with chronic health conditions and age putting older adults at higher risk for hospitalization and death. Residents who live in congregate facilities are even at a higher risk of infection because of close living conditions. They rely on caregivers to utilize Revised 1/16/2020 1 / 2 2 infection prevention methods correctly. An article dated December 3 by Watson (2020) noted that as of 3 weeks ago, there were three facilities with infection rates above 5%. Still, currently, nine Erie County sites have a positive test rate of 5% or more. (B1a) Primary community and Prevention Resources In Erie County, the health department has advertised testing sites and prevention strategies throughout the community via billboards, radio, and television advertisements. The Erie County Department of Health has a website that lists Covid-19 information and resources. These resources include testing, the COVID-19 Cluster Action Initiative, travel guidance, community resources, and education on how COVID is spread and a link to the CDC information on holiday celebrations and gatherings. There is signage regarding health screening, visitation, hand hygiene, and mask requirements in the long-term care nursing facilities. Longterm care facilities require testing of their employees. The frequency of testing depends on the rate of infection in the area. The current frequency is twice a week. (B1b) Underlying Causes The long-term care residents rely on the facility's caregivers to prevent them from becoming infected with COVID-19. When community rates are high, it can be expected transmission to the aged 60 and over population will be increased, including those who reside in nursing homes. I believe it is a lack of knowledge regarding a multitude of areas. According to (Pfender, 2018) 48% of caregivers are 18-49 years old. The caregivers' behavior outside of work will directly affect those for whom they care. A study on mitigation behaviors reported by the CDC showed that between April and June: the percentage of age groups 18-29, 30-44, and over 60 all reported a decrease in washing or sanitizing hands, while all age groups showed a decline in keeping a 6-foot distance, all age groups showed a decline in canceling pleasure or social Revised 8/3/2020 [Show More]
