CVA DISEASE - STROKE : PAGE 1-25 8. 1 Acute Stroke unit care recommendations ● Admitted patients to hospital with an acute stroke/transient ischemic attack should be treated in a inpatient stroke... unit ASAP ○ Ideally within 24hrs from arrival ○ Stroke unit should be a specialized and geographically defined hospital unit (specialised area with trained professionals) ○ For those without stroke units, they must strive to focus care according to the comprehensive stroke care delivery ■ Includes: ● Clustering patients ● Interdisciplinary team ● Access to early rehabilitation ● Stroke care protocols ● Case rounds ● Patient education ● Core interdisciplinary team on the stroke units should consist of healthcare professionals with stroke experience.
