GCSE Psychology AQA Paper 2 Already Passed What is social influence? Used to describe how other people can affect our opinions, feelings and actions. What is conformity? A type of social influenc... e when we think/ act like those around us. What is informational social influence? The need to be right, when we are in a unfamiliar place. What is normative social influence? The need to be liked by people. In social situations we want to be accepted by others. We do and say things to help us fit in. What 3 factors affect conformity? Group size, task difficulty, anonymity. What are dispositional factors? Personal characteristics that may affect behaviour or conformity. Name 2 dispositional factors. Personality and expertise. What is an agentic state? More likely to obey orders in an agentic state, acting as agents for someone else. What is the agency theory? The idea a person will obey an authority figure when they believe the authority figure will take responsibility. Person no longer feels accountable. Name 3 social factors. Authority, culture, proximity. What does the F scale measure? Authoritarian personality What are the authoritarian characteristics? Especially obedient to authority, contempt to those they view as having a lower social status, very conventional attitudes on race, gender and sex, believe we need strong and powerful leaders, uncomfortable with uncertainty. What can cause authoritarian personality? Strict discipline, expectation of complete loyalty, impossibly high standards, severe criticism of perceived failings, conditional behaviour. What is bystander apathy? Doing nothing when someone's in need of help. What is bystander behaviour? The way someone responds when they witness someone else in need of help. What is bystander intervention? When a person who sees a person in need of help, offers to help. What is pro social behaviour? Actions that benefit other people or society. Similarity to victim and expertise What is social loafing? Putting less effort into doing something when you are with others doing the same thing. Refers to what happens when people lose their sense of individuality. What is individuality? Refers to who we are: personality, values, sense of right and wrong.
