SOCS-325 Week 2 Article Summary (Review, Discover, and Comment) The goal of natural capitalism is to extend sound principles of the market to all sources of material value to guara... ntee that all forms of wealth are as carefully stewarded as money is by facilitators of financial resources. The author states that the remedy for unsustainable market activities is the implementation of justifiable market activities. These activities include creating markets in avoided resource depletion & abated pollution credits which will maximize competition in saving resources. They put a few examples in this regard that how the inventions, sustainable practices & eco-friendly technologies can help markets work better. I read this article a few times as I wanted to get a full understanding of what the author was trying to convey to the readers. No matter where you go in the world, the demand for any item will be there. The goal is to be able to market goods in a way to turn a sizable profit. Many have tried to do so without the interference of the government. No matter how you slice it, the government will get their cut. It just depends on what type of government it is. When you deal in areas where the people are being strong armed into providing more than half of their earnings in order to stay in business you have to ask yourself, are the markets really working? Who is benefiting the most from it? Who suffers if the doors close? Are the people provided with the resources needed to be successful? In most cases they aren’t. Corners are being cut in order to save money but on the flip side, more money is being made. For example, a corner store selling water in a neighborhood where the water is really a necessity is more expensive than a 40 ounce of beer. The beer is flying off of the shelves so the owner marks it up. Unfortunately, the price of beer & water are comparable. It doesn’t matter that the store owner buys a 24 case of water for $3.99 but sells them individually at $1.25 per bottle. Everyone is out for the increase. This new form is time consuming & in all the nurse's opinions, a waste of time. It is also another thing to add to our charting & we already do a lot of double charting at this facility. I am learning a little more about Medicaid & their strict requirements while working at this facility. Medicare enacted a Do Not Pay list in order to attempt to control healthcare, with a list of preventable complications. These are complications that will not be reimbursed for the higher pay of the problem, if contracted while during a hospital stay, but has not affected physician reimbursement. The AMA opposed this, claiming that each individual patient issue was unique & at time, unavoidable, & that there were better ways to deal with overspending on healthcare. There were concerns that patients would not seek healthcare for fear they would be penalized for complications arising. In 2008 this list expanded, with an estimated "21 million" in savings expected per fiscal year (Hebda & Czar, 2013). Nursing charting, the old adage "if you didn't chart it, you didn't do it", comes into play here, & makes what we do, & how we do it, even more important, as well as how we document what we do.
