The I human virtual patient encounter assignments were an integral part in my learning for this course. While performing a history and physical on the virtual patient I had to keep I mind the specific reason for the patient encounter and address their needs accordingly. The assessments completed in I human were focused, and I had to be sure to ask quality questions to get detailed answers. Patient centered holistic care involves treating the patient as a whole and understanding their individual challenges to healthcare. Week 1’s discussion on social determinants of health helped shed light on the numerous issues that could affect a patient’s ability to receive quality healthcare. Demonstrating clinical judgment founded on a broad knowledge base is the advanced level nursing education competency that these courses assignments helped achieve. Discussion post through the weeks helped create an environment that clinical judgment and clinical reasoning could be demonstrated. Specifically, I would note the immersion weekend where future advanced practice nurses were able to learn from current practitioners and synthesize current and emerging evidence into future practice. The NONPF competency of functioning as an independent practitioner was demonstrated throughout this course. The I human assignments allowed students to assess, diagnose, plan, implement and provide instructions for evaluation. We were able to provide education for our patient specific to their diagnoses and provide pharmacological interventions. The weekly readings helped provide background knowledge and rationale for specific modalities and test that are specific to patient’s conditions. Lastly the recorded physical examination was a thorough head to toe assessment of a patient that addressed that allowed for the demonstration of learned assessment skills throughout this course.
