PSYC 300 Research Study

Document Content and Description Below

BULLYING PSYC 300, 2020 Data collection procedures Quantitative methods are used for the study that relies on data collected through surveys or polls. This process involves systematic inves... tigation of the phenomena that allow researcher to perform numerical analysis of the data. This method is conducted in social sciences and is effective for studying behavioral problems. Numbers are used for backing the ideas and relating answers with the theory. Quantitative research methods are effective for examining a large sample size. More in-depth study of the behaviors is obtained through these methods. Objective accuracy is attained by choosing closed-ended questions. A well-structured closed-ended questionnaire is designed for targeting the desires population. The questionnaire includes questions about the styles of bullying among boys and girls. The purpose of choosing closed questions is to attain accuracy and compute data more conveniently. The questionnaire includes demographic information such as age, gender and education. The remaining questions are on perceptions of participants towards bullying. Data is collected by circulating the questionnaire to the students in a school setting having ages of 10-18. The students are selected randomly that include 10 male and 10 female students. Before sharing the questionnaire, the participants are explained the purpose of the research that is to examine the differences in bullying behaviors between boys and girls. The consent is obtained from the participants that assure no one is enforced to participate in the survey. The students are explained that their information will remain confidential and safe. Ethical conditions of research are met for completing the survey. The instructional review board approved the research that depicts the ethical considerations in the study. Time of 20 minutes is given to the students for the completion of the survey. Throughout the process of survey, the researcher does not influence the beliefs or choices of the students. Only completed questionnaire are selected for the purpose of research. Incomplete questionnaires are removed. Data analysis The primary statistical technique employed for the examination of perceptions is correlation analysis. Statistical software (SPSS) is used for the computation of results. Correlation analysis is used for determining the relationship between variables. The independent variable style of bullying is studies for examining its association with the dependent variable gender. Statistical relationship between the variables is studies for determining how styles of bullying vary among people of different gender. A high correlation indicates there is a significant association between the dependent (gender) and independent (style of bullying) variables. The statistical techniques help in understanding does style of bullying has significant influence on gender of individuals. A weak or low correlation suggests there is no relationship between the dependent (gender) and independent (style of bullying) variables. In statistical software Pearson correlation is computed that uncover the degree of association between variables. The second statistical technique employed for determining the results is One-way ANOVA. This technique is adopted for examining how means of two or more independent groups vary. This technique is appropriate for examining the differences between male and female in terms of styles of bullying. This can be calculated by estimating sum of all independent means divided by the total groups. There are two groups (male and female) so the estimated means are divided by 2. The calculations can be made in SPSS that gives F-table. The table can be used for ......................................CONTINUED.................. [Show More]
