NURSING 6560_ WEEK 3 IHUMAN CASE STUDY CC: Difficulty Swallowing HPI: The patient is a 63 year old male who has a history of osteoarthritis in his knees, bronchitis, smoking, ETOH abuse, and possibl... e emphysema, who presents to the emergency department with dysphagia x2 months, fatigue, and a 12 lb. weight loss. He complains of swallowing that has progressively gotten worse. It initially was just solids, but for the last 10 days liquids are challenging. He coughs with swallowing, and he identifies that his food gets stuck right 3cm below his sternal notch for about five seconds. He has been unable to eat efficiently, and has suffered a 12 lb weight loss. He affirms that he does not feel any burning or have an acid taste with food, but he does state that when he feels his food “get stuck” there is some pain. Daily ETOH intake of 5-6 shots of whiskey. CAGE positive 2-¾. No complaints of chest pain, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. [Show More]
