In the book Why Evolution is Ture, the author Jerry Coyne presents what I think is an amazing and bold job in supporting some evidence for the evolution theory. The data, supporting documentation, research and the observations gathered and collected for this book are very well organized. The great thing is that he doesn’t force this idea of Evolution upon you, he simply places evidence in front of you. It makes one question whether or not all of the living things on Earth possibly developed over time from the evolution theory. It makes you think and wonder whether or not we the human race came from tiny simple organisms but over time, like a really long time developed into the complex species we are today. Or, is Coyne and the rest of the scientific world who believes in evolution wrong and it’s just a really cool idea that belongs in a science fiction movie. I’ve taken many science classes throughout high school and college but this is my first on evolution. I’ve learned a great deal from reading this book and taken this class. Coyne doesn’t bad mouth other ideas such as Theology either. With that said this book and class have also made me question many things I’ve learned and I’m sure I’m not the only one. I grew up in a semi religious house where me and my brothers went to church every Sunday. My parents weren’t very religious but still sent us off to Sunday school because honestly, I think they wanted a break from us. We learned a lot about the bible, the stories it held and about GOD, Noah, the Ark and so many other amazing things. We were taught that GOD created Adam and Eve and that all of man came from them. I can honestly say after reading the book YOUR INNER FISH and taking this Evolution class it’s changed the way I look at some things. It’s made me question the idea of Theology and what I was thought when I was a child. My family recently started going back to church a few weeks ago and I find myself listening to the preacher and asking how can this be true. How can the Bible and GOD compete with the evolution theory and the science behind it or can they both exist together? Can someone’s faith really hold up and be that strong? Is evolution the theory and science behind evolution even true? So let’s take a look into this book “Why Evolution Is True”. The first chapter introduces us to evolution. He explains that Charles Darwin is kind of the Grandfather of the evolution theory. First one would need to know the definition of evolution. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, “descent with modification from preexisting species : cumulative inherited change in a population of organisms through time leading to the appearance of new forms : the process by which new species or populations of living things develop from preexisting forms through successive generations”. This doesn’t mean that evolution is always creating the perfect specimens but it works to try and improve an organism from its ancestor. Evolution does make mistakes or compromises things that can be considered questionable. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Again this book has opened my eyes into the theory of evolution. I know that I can’t remember everything from this book and that I don’t have a PHD in a scientific field or as a theorist but I am strongly on the side of evolution. This has made me question some of the things in the bible and I don’t know if that is a good or bad thing at this time. Unlike science and evolution of life, the bible doesn’t leave much room to evolve. The bible can only be deliberated and discussed about what was possibly meant or how the context should be taken. Science is always finding something new, disproving and proving the things that are out there by facts. It’s hard to say what will be discovered next or how it will be taken by people who have faith of a supreme creator. Only time and lots of digging will tell.. Work Cited Coyne, J.A. (2010).
