Please complete the following remediation activities for your Pharmacology assessment: 1. Complete an ATI Focused Review® and send a detailed summary (2-3 sentences each) of 4 concepts that you lea... rned from the focused review to me in the messaging system.  Nonopioid Analgesics (Ch 35) o NSAIDS are nonopioid analgesics. Some of these medications are aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen. These medications are typically used for patients who have mild to moderate pain as well as a fever reducer. Some possible complications that nonopioid analgesics can cause are impaired kidney function and GI problems. There is a risk for heart attack and stroke in nonaspirin NSAIDS. A client with aspirin toxicity usually display symptoms such as sweating, high fever acidosis, electrolyte imbalances, coma and respiratory depression. It is important to give client IV fluids and aspirin toxicity should be managed as a medical emergency.  Blood and Blood Product Transfusions: Manifestations of Anaphylaxis (Ch 40) o An allergy of a blood transfusion can occur during or within 24 hours after given to the client. The allergic reactions are usually mild such as flushing, itching and urticaria. The nurse must stop the infusion and give 0.9% sodium chloride and use a new tube. An anaphylactic reaction is more serious and includes bronchospasms, laryngeal edema and shock. The nurse should also stop the infusion and administer epinephrine and oxygen and also provide CPR if its needed. The nurse should also remove the blooding tubing from the client’s IV access and give 0.9% sodium chloride through a new tube.  Substance Use Disorders: Treatment for Severe Alcohol Withdrawal (Ch 12) o Manifestations of alcohol withdrawal are nausea, vomiting, increased heart rate, increased blood pressure, depressed mood, tonic-clonic seizures as well illusions. Benzodiazepines are usually the first-line treatment for alcohol withdrawal. Common benzodiazepines are lorazepam and diazepam. They decrease the risk of seizures and decrease the intensity of withdrawal manifestations. When a client is on a benzodiazepine, the nurse should obtain baseline vital signs as well as monitoring vital signs and neurological status. They should also provide seizure precautions.  Viral Infections, HIV, and AIDS: Adverse Effects of Acyclovir (Ch 48) o Acyclovir is used as a treatment for herpes zoster and herpes simplex viruses. Acyclovir can cause complications such as nephrotoxicity, phlebitis, gingival hyperplasia, as well as mild discomfort (oral therapy). If a client is experiencing phlebitis, the nurse should rotate IV injection sites and monitor the IV sites for redness and swelling. If a client is experiencing nephrotoxicity, the nurse should administer acyclovir infusion slowly over an hour and that the client is adequately hydrated during the infusing. The nurse should notify the provider if the client has nausea, headache or diarrhea due to oral therapy of acyclovir. [Show More]
