Abstract Ethiopia's economy is highly dependent upon agriculture. Plant disease reduces the productionand quality of food, fiber, and biofuel crops. The application of Artificial Neural Network (ANN)i... n crop disease detection is a generally pursued area in Software Engineering and is believed tobe helpful in developing countries like Ethiopia. As graduating students of Software Engineeringbachelor's degree program at Jimma University, we plan to research on this topic and evaluateexperiments by building an integrated system to come to a conclusion regarding this area.This research is aimed at developing a model that can automatically detect and classify cropdiseases on leaves using Artificial Neural Network. By completing this research, we aresignificantly reducing the amount of human effort needed, time, and the overhead cost of farmersmainly. This will have a profound impact on reliability and crop production management fordifferent managerial bodies and farmers. Our project's scope is only regarding wheat disease detection, but we will provide the necessaryinformation and materials needed in case other researchers want to extend our work. The system will facilitate better management of production resources. For instance, by assessingthe immediate and potential dangers to crops from diseases, the system can recognize the criticalimportance of extension and training in getting farmers to adopt the best practices and evaluatingthe risks particularly by integrated use of the methods. It can also forecast the disease incidenceand severity and exploit the potential for disease control in new systems of crop production. The system will contribute to the improvement of food security and the country's foreigncurrency by showing instant and accurate crop production improving disease managing andcontrolling systems. To do this research we gathered information about crop production management, plant diseases,and their control and preventive mechanism. To develop the system, we will use object-orientedapproach. To do this proposal , the time planned is about ten days and totally to develop thesystem the time planned is about ten months.
