Example of the Correlation Function Role • Social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook may indicate that often, no middleman exists. • Social media users are responsible for differentiating real and fake news Description of the Cultural Transmission and Influencing Societal Norms Role This media role in influencing government and the public provides and interprets news and information allowing room for reflection on how it influences the societal norms. Example of the Cultural Transmission and Influencing Societal Norms Role • Different cultures pass on different norms and values • For example: Utensils, such as a knife and fork, are used in western society, whereas chopsticks are used in japan (Zhou, Liu, & Ho, 2015). • Children’s TV programs are designed to showcase good behaviors and standard norms which children learn by watching (Zhou, Liu, & Ho, 2015). Description of the Education and Entertainment Role The education and entertainment role of media in influencing government and the public is to educate through entertainment most often it involves content that is meant to teach but happens to be entertaining at the same time.
