SOCS 325 Week 4 Discussion: Environmental Stress Evaluate & describe the relationship between standards of living, fertility rates, hunger, & local environmental stress. The relationship between standards of living, fertility rates, hunger & local environmental stress 1st Answer: The relationship between the above mentioned variables is perceived to be linear hence the relationship is curvilinear since the population growth was limited by the availability of resources (Malthus & Marx). The fertility is negatively associated with the standard of living thus when the standard of living is relatively low, fertility has a positive effect on the standard of living whereas when the standard of living is moderate fertility has a negative effect on the standard of living. But hunger & fertility rate are directly proportional meaning when the hunger is high then people will starve leading to reduction infertility rate since there will be no resources to sustain the births. When the hunger is high too the standards of living reduces & the life becomes unbearable. When the fertility rate is high the environmental stress will also be high since many births will be recorded & there will be strain on the available resources. 2nd Answer: Standards of living for a person or the society may be described as the degree of wealth & material comfort available to a person or the community as a whole. the standards of living that various individuals are going or through or are experiencing are vital when it comes to fertility rates, fertility is the capacity of an individual or population to produce viable offspring, when the standards of living are high fertility rates are also high & vice versa, high standards of living that may boosts fertility rate are things like presence of hospitals, improved maternity care & diet among others. individuals who are experiencing hunger have low living standards therefore there fertility rate will be lower as people are also scared of giving birth due to the fact that they don not have food to feed there children. higher fertility rate means the population will increase at a higher rate poor planning of the same will lead to lower living standards & hunger as there are more individuals than what is there to offer to them in terms of resources, increased population pressure also causes environmental stress which is Pressure on the environment caused by human activities (such as generation of pollution) or by natural events. environmental stress is also a clear indication of poor living standards all this is caused by higher fertility rates References Bakun, A.
