Every day I look at it and it brings me joy, it is not done by any artist you may have heard of but by my daughter when she was young. It is an eight by eleven canvas board with a simple acrylic painting of a house in blues and greens and brown. It would have been a calm simple piece until she went over the entire board with swirls of various shades of purple and reds creating a feeling of whimsical chaos. The space on the piece is only partially taken up with the house, the remainder is overlapping colors that remind you of something between a Willy Wonka lollipop and the tornado from the Wizard of Oz. Something between the calm straight lines and cool colors of the house to the warm moving colors of the swirls capture my attention and make this artwork my favorite. 169 words Rate: Rate... I wish I could see the whimsical qualities you describe. I like that you also describe where the art hangs in your house. I have to tell you that I love artwork anywhere in the house! There is something very calming about being able to look at a piece like the one you described while completing daily task. At the moment I am convinced that one of the best (and proliÕc) authors was Edward Hopper. Hopper started painting at an early age, after attending an American art school in the early 1900s. His subjects were scenes of everyday life mostly. His most famous work, "Nighthawks", is a perfect example. What fascinates me most about Hopper's painting is not the technique (an art scholar could even consider it lacking), nor the skill (not that he was not a very good painter). What really captures Hopper is, in my opinion, the ability to take a trivial subject (a waiting room, a cafe, a gas station) and turn it into something alive and magniÕcent, giving back to the viewer all the emotions contained in the painting. There are many painters who have this ability, in their own way, and yet Hopper is for me the embodiment of this skill. The painting I chose ("Nighthawks", in fact) is the emblem of the simplicity of the line and the essentiality of the shapes, yet it contains in itself the ability to drag you inside, making you almost feel the sounds and the smells of the scene portrayed. Unfortunately I never had the chance to see it live, but I hope I can do it one day in the near future. I also like Hopper very much. During the concluding years of my education, I studied a great deal of Modern art. I am drawn to his work and the representations of isolation that he eludes to. Even in this work, we see people gathered together, but all are lost in their thoughts or activities. I hope you do get to see this work in person someday. I was fortunate enough to see it about ten years ago, and the experience has stuck with me. It is almost like a photo been taken by your eyes. I can not say exactly what medium is used but very easy on the eyes. 44 words Permalink | Show parent | Reply Re: An Introduction to Art by Mourad Jari - Monday, 15 April 2019, 5:43 PM Dear Mauro, Thank you for sharing your perspective with us. I liked the way you explained the "Nighthawks" painting. It has, as you said, this ability to drag you inside. Good work. Keep it up. Not only is there a somber tone created in the monochromatic tones of the work, but there is also a sadness that is emitted by the elongation of the Õgure. The choice to create the Õgure, as if hanging over the guitar, provides a sense of both sorrow and holding on to singular enjoyment; as we see in the variance in the color of the guitar.
