SOCS 350 Week 4 Course Project: Reference List and Outline Abstract I chose this topic because thinking about this issue of same-sex marriage forces us to face our beliefs. I also want to inves... tigate more about social policy related to same-sex marriage and how this policy or laws helps us understand each other so that we can to build a better society. According to the law, we all have equal protections rights, both genders are equal. Yet they are not equal for the purpose of marriage. A large number of our society are against same-sex marriage and a large number of our soceity are for same-sex marriage. Therefore, same-sex marriage is to me is a social problem. Outline and Organization This paper will define same sex marriage. At present, there are huge legal hurdles to same-sex marriage, but there are social and religious barriers that are even greater. Same sex marriage has become legalized in more states and countries worldwide. My paper will describe factors used to determine child custody for Same-Sex Parents. I will write on what my state (Maryland) laws says about same sex marriage. The paper will address how same-sex couples is treated as married for all federal tax purposes, including income and gift and estate taxes. This applies to all federal tax provisions where marriage is a factor, including filing status, claiming personal and dependency exemptions, taking the standard deduction, employee benefits, contributing to an IRA and claiming the earned income credit or child tax credit.
