What is sexual assault? Sexual assault is define as when a person is forced to engage in sexual act, or a person is touched, unwantedly kissed, or raped by other person. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (2014), states that sexual assault is a crime of violence and aggression, incorporating variety of sexual activities that ranges from sexual coercion to contact abuse such as unwanted kissing, fondling, or touching to rape. Reproductive-aged victims of sexual assault are at risk of unintended pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, and mental health conditions, including posttraumatic stress disorder. This number represents an increase of 14.7% from the prior year. The rape rate is 33.3 per 100,000 population. This places Pennsylvania right in the middle of all the states, with Alaska having the highest rape rate at 79.7 per 100,000. The numbers, while staggering, pale in comparison to global estimates of sexual violence again women. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that one in three women worldwide have experienced either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual [Show More]
