Purpose: To study electric fields and electrical potential energy per unit charge as they relate to the ready state of a nerve cell. Apparatus: Electrometer, DC power supply, BNC to alligator wire... s used as voltage probes, semiconductive paper, semi-conductive ink, graph paper is provided Background: The nerve cell or neuron receives information at one end and then passes the information through itself to either another neuron or to the brain. The signal can only move through the cell in one direction. We will take a look at the process of the signal formation and the movement of the signal through the cell. We will only concern ourselves with the production of the signal within the nerve cell and how the cell passes the signal through itself. When talking about an electric field we assume that some charge exists and the charge can produce a force on other charges.
