Overview This week’s laboratory session will continue examining the separation and identification of the skeletal muscles and dissection of various synovial joints on the fetal pig specimens. Tendons are specialized fibrous connective tissue that connects a muscle to bone. As muscle contracts, its force pulls on the tendon which ultimately moves a bone across a joint. A common tendon that individuals recognize is the Achilles tendon. Ligaments are specialized fibrous connective tissue that connects one bone to another bone providing stability to a joint. A commonly recognized ligament is the anterior cruciate ligament otherwise known as the ACL, which helps stabilize the knee joint. [Show More]
