Background MRSA is a variation of an already recognized human pathogen, S. aureus, gram-positive bacteria that occur in grape-like clusters called cocci. This bacterium is typically found in the hu... man armpit, groin, nose and throat. However, depending on where the infection is reflects on how the infection will affect the body. The integumentary system is typically the part of the body mostly affected by MRSA, but if not treated, the infection can spread to the blood, bones, and major organs of the body such as the heart and lungs. Due to being a common bacterium, MRSA can be found in both the community and in hospitals. The risk of obtaining the infection is increased when a person is in activities or places that involve crowding, skin-to-skin contact, and shared equipment or supplies. Those who recently received inpatient medical care, military personnel in barracks, athletes, daycare and/or students, and prisoners are at higher risk for developing methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Geographical speaking, the infection can be found anywhere in your day-to-day life.
