How do you define critical thinking? Critical thinking is a process in which one must be able to determine and examine an issue, in combination with prior knowledge, to establish a judgment. Critica... l thinking is systematic way of thinking that encompasses breaking down a problem, looking for a deeper understanding, and results in an idea or judgement being formed. Heart of the Matter Considering just what is in this weeks' readings, why do you think the authors see Chapters 12, 13, and 14 as the "heart of the matter"? I feel the authors view the following chapters are the “heart of the matter,” because those chapters involve comparative, ideological and empirical reasoning. These concepts help individuals understand their thoughts and beliefs. What do you think they mean by that? I think using the phrase “heart of the matter” emphasizes the importance of the material. I believe that by referring to these chapters as the “heart of the matter,” it is the authors’ way of letting the readers know that these chapters are the bread and butter, or meat and potatoes, of the literary piece. Additionally, I feel this is the authors’ way of telling the readers to pay close attention to the next few chapters. What two concepts do the authors say these chapters emphasize? Facione and Gittens emphasize that there are six skills needed for adequate critical thinking. Those six skills are interpretation, analysis, inference, explanation, evaluation, and selfregulation.
