Social Sciences > Dissertation > how childbearing affect female career advancement in china (All)
One of the most significant challenges that Chinese women face is the implication of pregnancy on their careers. It is even worse to speak up and protest for work-related discriminations because they ... face public judgement and criticism. Unlike in the Western countries where employees resume their work after taking paternity and maternity leave, such guarantees do not exist in China. Women forfeit their employment positions upon requesting for a maternity leave. They, in fact, submit resignation letters along with their maternity leave request forms. This problem jeopardizes China’s economic growth besides exacerbating social challenges, especially among the aging populations. The state has apparently not done much to outlaw gender bias and other discriminatory practices. Thus, it is worthwhile to analyze the impacts of parenting on the career development of Chinese women. The primary impact is termination from employment, which diminishes financial security and organizational benefits such as insurance. A wealth of literature has been incorporated to provide evidence in this research. [Show More]
