The economic growth of the black population led a number to move into new middle class neighborhoods which suited their status. However, this caused some disquiet among the whites who saw this in the ... light of racial bias and the undertones which has existed for a long time. The blacks who purchased houses in the suburbs were overcharged to discourage them from moving into white neighborhood. The whites felt that their presence would cause the deterioration of their neighborhoods.
