NR661 FNP Capstone Practicum 2 Course Week 8 Reflection Reflect over the eight weeks spent in each course and describe how the achievement of the course outcomes in that course prepared you to... meet the selected MSN program outcome and the MSN Essential Student Response NR503 Program Outcome #1: Practice safe, high-quality advanced nursing care based on concepts and knowledge from nursing and related disciplines (MSN Essential I). MSN Essential I: Background for Practice from Sciences and Humanities Recognizes that the master’sprepared nurse integrates scientific findingsfrom nursing, biopsychosocial fields, genetics, public health, qualityimprovement, and organizational sciences for the continual improvementof nursing care across diverse settings. Professor and Class, Throughout the last eight weeks I have gained so much knowledge that I will be able to use in my practice of being a FNP. As I reflect back on how this course has prepared me to meet the MSN program outcome #1 and the MSN Essential I, this course has reenforced the importance of using evidence based practices and working as a team with all those involved with the healthcare team. Also through this course I have begun to gain a unique insight into the theory and methods developed for the epidemiological study and control of both chronic and infectious disease. This will continue to grow as I grow as a practitioner and throughout my career. I have a better understanding about the main principles for the planning and carrying out of epidemiological research in clinical and public health contexts, and for the analysis of data generated in such research. Through this course I have gained epidemiological knowledge that renders me as a valuable partners in the planning and carrying out of epidemiological research in clinical and public health contexts. I am able to read and critically evaluate epidemiological literature including assessment of research methods, results and the validity of conclusions.. Thank you all for a wonderful session. NR661 FNP Capstone Practicum 3 I look forward to seeing you in the threads during the next eight weeks! NR507 Program Outcome #4: Evaluate the design, implementation, and outcomes of strategies developed to meet healthcare needs (MSN Essentials III, IV, VIII). MSN Essential VIII: Clinical Prevention and Population Health for Improving Health •Recognizes that the master’sprepared nurse applies and integrates broad, organizational, client-centered, and culturally appropriate concepts in the planning, delivery, management, and evaluation of evidence-based clinical prevention and population care and services to individuals, families, and aggregates/identified populations. Nurse Practitioner Core Competencies # 1 Scientific Foundation Competencies 1. Critically analyzes data and evidence for improving advanced nursing practice. 2. Integrates knowledge from the humanities and sciences within the context of nursing science. 3. Translates research and other forms of knowledge to improve practice processes and outcomes. Professor and Class, he study of pathophysiology elicits different feelings and exposes one to an array of experiences. In line with the core expected outcome of completing the required courses for competency in clinical programs, the course also exposes one to much more with regard to inherent understanding of the causes of diseases and the relationship of the mechanisms of an organisms to the symptoms of the disease. The need to have a selfcorrecting investigatory process in clinical academics is well addressed since pathophysiology offers a bridge between the causes, the mechanisms and the outcomes of different pathogens and diseases. Such link in knowledge offers a sense of satisfaction and confidence in dealing with related cases. The course has offered a learning experience on ways to communicate different issues regarding pathophysiology through writing, in verbal communication and multimedia. The course has offered scientific basis for evaluating whether information concerning pathophysiology provided is valid. The lecture experiences and concepts learnt will also increase the success of choices in clinical problem solving. The course has also underlined the basis of laboratory tests and the entire diagnostics procedures hence creating a correlation between pathophysiology and other health science programs. Most importantly, it helped understand in detail how the organ system is interrelated and this gives one a basis for a holistic approach toward evaluating and treating patients.Thank you all for a great session! NR661 FNP Capstone Practicum 4 4. Develops new practice approaches based on the integration of research, theory, and practice knowledge. NR508 Program Outcome #3: Use contemporary communication modalities effectively in advanced nursing roles MSN Essential IX: Master’s-Level Nursing Practice Recognizes that nursing practice, at the master’s level, is broadly defined as any form of nursing intervention that influences healthcare outcomes for individuals, populations, or systems. Master’s-level nursing graduates must have an advanced level of understanding of nursing and relevant sciences as well as the ability to integrate this knowledge into practice. Nursing practice interventions include both direct and indirect care components. Nurse Practitioner Core Competencies #5 Technology and Information Literacy Competencies 1. Integrates appropriate technologies for knowledge management to improve health care. 2. Translates technical and Professor and Class, Achievement of Course Outcome Two: “Differentiate evidence-based practice guidelines in management of therapeutic agents for selected system problems” gave me the opportunity to incorporate the Program Outcome #3 This course has shown me throughout these past 8 weeks and also seeing within my practice as a RN that even though that you provide the education at the appointment over the medication and lifestyle changes, the patient doesn’t always remember what was discussed. This is why that it’s vital that we as providers use several different types of communication methods. There are a ton of recourses that are not only available to us as providers but to the patients as well. We need to ensure that we provide these information to the patients thus we are providing the patients with as much knowledge as possible. I feel that not only do we need to provide the information to the patient but we as providers need to ensure that they completely understand their medication and any changes that they need to do. . Achievement of Course Outcome Six: “I feel the information from that course was as foundational to our future practice as an APN, that it would have been much more valuable to have weekly opportunities for classroom lecture. Another resource that I am finding quite valuable is the Epocrates and MedScape applications on my mobile phone. Each of these provides an excellent and easily accessible point of quick reference for medication information including: indications, dosage, adverse side effects, precautions, and critical drug NR661 FNP Capstone Practicum 5 scientific health information appropriate for various users’ needs. 2a). Assesses the patient’s and caregiver’s educational needs to provide effective, personalized health care. 2b). Coaches the patient and caregiver for positive behavioral change. 3. Demonstrates information literacy skills in complex decision making. 4. Contributes to the design of clinical information systems that promote safe, quality and cost effective care. 5. Uses technology systems that capture data on variables for the evaluation of nursing care. interactions. These have been very useful thus far in my clinical experience and I anticipate that I will continue to utilize these references well into my practice after graduation. Achievement of Course Outcome 1: “Evaluate the APN role for independent and interprofessional collaborative management of pharmacological agents in prescribing and monitoring pharmacologic therapies in patients across the lifespan” was heavily dependent upon Nurse Practitioner Core Competency #5: Technology and Information Literacy Competencies. Again, through accessing and use of Epocrates, Micromedex and websites of the like, I was able to practice and apply translation of scientific health information, integrate technology into health care practice, validate information literacy skills, and use available technology that captures data and evaluates care to continue in the improvement process. When it comes to prescriptive authority, sound critical thinking in decision making is crucial. Medications can and do alter people’s lives and the ability to prescribe them is an awesome responsibility. Part of the fear in having this responsibility lies in the fact that many times, as providers, we do not always know what medications a patient is already taking. Certainly, patients do their best in relaying their medical history and providing up-to-date lists of their current medications; however, we know that information is often forgotten or omitted from our conversations with them. This causes concern when prescribing new medications, as there may be harmful drug interactions that we are not able to avoid without all the pertinent information from the patient. Becoming familiar with medication costs and insurance issues will certainly continue to be a challenging aspect of pharmacologic NR661 FNP Capstone Practicum 6 authority in my APN practice. Of course, the future of my APN practice will be influenced by daily by pharmacologic aspects. These influences are broad and will include: safety, cost, effectiveness, accessibility, and practical usage. As I progress in my clinical experiences and enter my own practice as an APN, I expect that these concerns and decisions will eventually become more and more familiar. However, pharmacology is an area of medicine that is constantly changing and evolving, so keeping up-to-date on new medications and indications will be critical. The use of technology is something that I use almost every day as far as my education and practice. I have apps on my phone to look up medications. Also if we look where technology is going we now have the availability to have appointments with patients via phone, computer, or any other way of commination, through these methods we are able to diagnosis patients who may not be able to make to an appointment. This opens the technology aspect even further than it has ever gone. NR509 Program Outcome #1: Practice safe, high-quality advanced nursing care based on concepts and knowledge from nursing and related disciplines. MSN Essential I: Background for Practice from Sciences and Humanities Recognizes that the master’sprepared nurse integrates scientific findings from nursing, biopsychosocial fields, genetics, public health, quality improvement, and organizational sciences for the Professor and Class, Advanced Physical Assessment completed the preparation for clinical experience providing the basic knowledge that I need to safely learn to care for the patients in a different role as a nurse practitioner. This course certainly taught me in a provider’s perspective the importance of physical assessment to come up with the differential diagnoses utilizing pathophysiology and pharmacology to a goal of providing a high quality care. I feel that the hardest thing for me in the beginning was nailing down how to properly a SOAP note but definitely by the end of the course I am more confident in writing these types of NR661 FNP Capstone Practicum 7 continual improvement of nursing care across diverse settings. Nurse Practitioner Core Competencies #1 Scientific Foundation Competencies 1. Critically analyzes data and evidence for improving advanced nursing practice. 2. Integrates knowledge from the humanities and sciences within the context of nursing science. 3. Translates research and other forms of knowledge to improve practice processes and outcomes. 4. Develops new practice approaches based on the integration of research, theory, and practice knowledge notes. As I begin to start my clinicals I feel that this skill will become more and more proficient. [Show More]
