What makes an effective leader? Or better yet, what makes it so difficult to be an effective leader? Leaders often have or tend to attain a style of leadership which is innate to their discipline. But one style or method will not likely be effective be for all or suitable for all. Leaders, therefore, must find, in their leadership styles, a means to flexibility. Being a mother figure to one staffer will not likely suffice with the next staffer who needs an understanding partner in order to accomplish her goals. A good leader, however, will foster a positive environment that allows their team to flourish and grow regardless of the leadership style being implored. This posting will allow me to reflect on the leader that has had the most meaningful impact on me in becoming the leader I wish to be. I will discuss her leadership style and working attitude. After citing some of her attributes and certain challenges to her style of leadership, I will briefly share my own leadership style, my leadership acumen, competencies, and what unique skills I might bring to the future MSN role I aspire to as a Nurse Executive. Jennifer Carter, my Director of Operations for over two years was a very effective leader because she listened. She was honest about what she knew, she motivated her subordinates by stimulating their intellect, providing them with individual attention when needed, by challenging This study source was downloaded by 100000831988016 from CourseHero.com on 04-24-2022 09:32:13 GMT -05:00 https://www.coursehero.com/file/54307437/Peer-Engagment-Forum-N2-2-504docx/ us to achieve high standards, she clearly became the inspiration she wanted to see achieved ( Callier & Sa, 2017). Jennifer possessed a wealth of knowledge on how to manage information like outcome data, financial targets, and performance management. The first time I ever saw my financials spread-sheet for the clinic I served was when she introduced them to me. At that point, I did not know what EBIT meant, and I had been a clinical manager for two years already. Her skills in communication and collaboration along with her positive assistance to me for becoming a better manager and a stronger leader for my staff. Because she was both positive and firm the other staff members respected her and tried to achieved the goals she set for us. My leadership knowledge, skills, and attitude tend to reflect the CCN conceptual framework in that I try to create a culture of humility. Allowing the employees to incorporate their beliefs to generate team creativity to improve organizational performance as well as self-growth (Adiguzel, 2019). Competencies are expected to help in obtaining success in any and all positions. Success is determined by what is done and how much is accomplished while interacting, communicating and collaborating with others. My competencies and personal leadership awareness for the future MSN role as Nurse Executive will give me the ability to make a positive difference for my patients, employees and my community. I believe Jennifer’s guidelines for working well with others is one of the attributes I’d like to think I now carry with me. Reflecting on this former leader has given me an increased sense of purpose. As a future This study source was downloaded by 100000831988016 from CourseHero.com on 04-24-2022 09:32:13 GMT -05:00 https://www.coursehero.com/file/54307437/Peer-Engagment-Forum-N2-2-504docx/ leader in the role of an Executive Nurse, I want to seek opportunities for learning personally and as a motivator seeking to improve the lives of our patients and the many communities around us.
